It’s been an interesting summer in Kansas City. I’ve seen/felt/experienced many things that I had not before and I am thankful. There are only a few people on my mind that I constantly think about wherever I may be and I know I’m not doing enough to be there for any of them. Tell me how I can be there for you. I mean that.

It’s been years since I’ve made work that I feel good about. It’s been years since I’ve made any work at all. I have been brewing many concepts to shoot, but not many of them made it past my thoughts and onto the camera. I haven’t felt a burden to document many ideas until now.

As some of you may know, I am currently documenting banks in Kansas City, west of Highway 71. This particular road was used to mark the racial divide line in Kansas City. This can be felt/seen/remembered even today. Why banks? Because banks east of 71 in KC are almost non-existent. *Banks are legally obligated to give loans to anyone that neighborhood. Thus, banks don’t exist in neighborhoods they don’t want to loan to. Structural Racism.

How bad?

banks

I don’t want to ‘say’ or ‘mean’ anything with this project. I don’t have to.

This is what I have thus far.
